Guard Your Heart
Prov. 4:23. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
The most important effort you can engage in is guarding your heart. This is done my by understanding and practicing the truths of the scripture. Without the God’s Word to help us stay the course we are destined to wander and lose our way.
We must defend our hearts to the death.
The world is screaming at us hundreds of messages a day. Most of them are harmful to us and our heart.
If our heart is not fortified by the principles of the word we are easy targets.
The bricks that form the walls around any city protect the inhabitants from attack. God’s word is the bricks that protect our hearts from unwanted attack. The more of the word we have mastered the higher our wall of protection are.
Proverbs 25:28 says, “Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.”
A city with no walls is open to assault on every side. This is unacceptable and frightful.
We must watch our hearts most secret motives and not allow evil ones to creep in.
In the army of any city has uniformed soldiers both the loyal and the traitors. Both are dressed exactly alike and make the same professions. You can’t tell an imposter from a loyal soldier by the uniform so we must look for the secret actions and motivations of each to detect the traitor.
So in the heart… Watch your motives and secret thoughts Rid ourselves of those that are wicked.
The bible is full of instructions about protecting the heart like this one in Matthew 6:21, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” This periscope is encouraging to value the eternal more than the temporary and not get too attached to money.
Let’s suppose you 19 years old and you just earned 500,000 dollars. What would you do with it? Be honest! This would be a great heart test for most of us.
According to Sports Illustrated, 19-year-old soccer phenom Kylian Mbappe earned about $22,500 for each of France's seven World Cup matches in 2018, plus a bonus of around $350,000 after Les Bleus won the title Sunday with a 4-2 victory over Croatia. Totaling that up, he'll take in more than $500,000 for his highly successful month in Russia. But he apparently won't be keeping one euro of it. Instead, according to L'Equipe, he will be donating it all to Premiers de Cordee, a charity that provides sports activities to hospitalized and disabled children.
Would you do that?? What secret motives do you need to put to death by repentance? Do so now.
